Conflict
6 x 8
SOLD

My first self-portrait, this piece was intended to be a study in rendering the human form via pointillism with the tip of the knife blade, and an exercise in creating realistic, soft skin using a somewhat harsh tool.

"Conflict" is a personal piece, drawing on the idea that internal struggles often leave one isolated and withdrawn. My body position in the piece is indicative of someone closed off and unable to relate to others, something I have struggled with my entire life. I also want viewers to see strength here. Women are incredibly adept at resolving conflicts internally. There is a tenseness in the pose that indicates this resolve.

My thanks to Rebekah Littlejohn for the photographic reference for this piece. www.littlejohnphotography.com
