Is there anything more impressive on a glassy lake, than a loon erupting from the water in showy display? (my angler friends would likely cite a large muskie instead lol) I captured this moment while out boating last year. Ironically, I was supposed to be fishing, but I couldn't stop photographing the loons. The play of light on this individual was perfect for the medium of scratchboard. My personal preference is to keep my representation of water on the minimal side so as to not distract from the main subject. I was hoping the light itself would be the main driver of the composition, drawing the eye around the subject in a circular motion, giving that spotlight effect.
